Kia Niro: Steering wheel / Repair procedures

Removal
1.

Disconnect the battery negative cable.

2.

Turn the steering wheel so that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.

3.

Remove the driver airbag module.

(Refer to Restraint - "Driver Airbag (DAB) Module and Clock Spring")

4.

Disconnect the connector.

5.

Loosen the bolt (A) and then remove the steering wheel.

Tightening torque:

39.2 - 49.0 N·m (4.0 - 5.0 kgf·m, 28.9 - 36.1 lb·ft)

  

Do not hammer on the steering wheel to remove it; it may damage the steering column.

Do not reuse the bolt.

6.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Disassembly
1.

Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2.

Remove the steering wheel assembly.

(Refer to Steering System -"Steering wheel")

3.

Loosen the screw and then remove the steering back cover.

4.

Disconnect the remote control switch connector.

5.

Loosen the screw and then remove the remote control switch.

6.

Disconnect the heated pad connector.

7.

Loosen the screw and then remove the remote control switch from the bezel.

8.

Loosen the bolts and then remove the damper.

9.

Install in the reverse order of removal.
